Investing in a hurricane shutter installation or hurricane screen installation is an affordable and effective way to protect your home’s windows from a storm. The right preparations can lead to your windows and interior surviving a storm without a scratch. Learn more about the different types of hurricane shutters here:
Colonial Hurricane Shutters – These are two-piece louvered shutters that are permanently attached to the wall beside each window. They serve a decorative purpose aside from protecting the windows from damage, though they can’t protect doors.
Bahama Hurricane Shutters – These are one-piece louvered shutters that are attached directly above the windows. You can prop them open to provide shade for the window. These shutters are also permanently attached. However, do note that they can’t protect doors and some homeowners complain that they block too much light. As a shade and deck canopy expert, we recommend researching your options well and consulting the experts to make the right choice.
Storm Panel Hurricane Shutters – These are more affordable than other shutter systems and they are attached to the walls around windows and doors on bolts or tracks. You can also remove the shutters when not in use and store them. Note that storm panel hurricane shutters can sometimes be difficult to handle and have sharp edges.
Accordion Hurricane Shutters – These shutters are so-named because they unfold like an accordion to cover and protect windows during a storm. They are housed beside the doors and windows when not in use. Some accordion hurricane shutters can be locked for extra security. Hurricane shutters can look bulky and out of place in some home styles, thereby decreasing a home’s curb appeal.
We can install deck awnings, retractable screens and hurricane screens. Our hurricane screens make an excellent alternative to hurricane shutters because they are made with aramid and polyester fibers. These are the materials that comprise ballistics body armor. They can also withstand winds of up to 200 miles per hour. Lastly, they have a special PVC coating that allows them to double as shade screens.
